If there’s anything that you want
If there’s anything I can do
Just call on me and I’ll send it along
With love from me to you
-The Beatles

When I found these adorable tag cookie cutters, I knew right away that they needed to be part of our Christmas cookies this year. And when I thought about what to write on them, this song immediately popped into my head. And then my imagination started flowing, figuring out how to combine Christmas with this love theme. Then my sister suggested using a turquoise and red color scheme, and these cookies were born. Continue reading

Sending My Love Valentine Cookies

Woah, two posts in one week? That hardly ever happens.

Wait, two decorated cookie posts in one week? That has never before happened on this blog.

I had no intention of making Valentine cookies this year, but when I had some leftover dough from the penguin cookies, I decided to make a small batch.

The scalloped squares have always made me think of stamps, so I decided to make Valentine stamp cookies. I found a picture of this year’s Valentine stamps from the post office, and I simplified the design quite a bit to fit on a small cookie.

Here’s a little sequence of pictures showing the process a little.

After doing the pink heart in the center, I flooded the remaining area with red icing.

Lastly (after letting them dry overnight), I used a little food coloring mixed with a little water to paint wavy stripes over the cookies so they look like they’ve been post marked. I also used a food color marker to write on the bottom.

These aren’t my favorite cookies I’ve ever made, but I thought I’d share them anyway and send you all a little Valentine’s Day love!

Waddle It Be? {Baby Shower Cookies}

Happy Monday, everyone! I hope today is treating you all better than it’s treating us. Little Man and I woke up sick today, so that’s kind of bumming us out. But luckily for all of you, being a little under the weather doesn’t keep me from sitting on the couch cuddled up in some blankets with my laptop, writing a blog post.

As you all know, if you read this blog, my sister and I make decorated sugar cookies now and again. We usually make a batch a few times a year. Well, recently I heard that Amy from Minnesota Locavore was looking for some custom cookies for a baby shower, and I said I’d be willing to take an order. She took me up on it!

Amy was throwing a gender reveal shower for her sister-in-law and the theme was “Waddle it be?” So, naturally, she wanted penguin cookies. I’m pretty sure that’s the cutest theme ever. I love penguins, and since it’s still colder than a witch’s you-know-what around here, it seems appropriate. ;)

Christmas Sweater Cookies

Less than a week until Christmas! I can hardly believe how fast December has gone. And how many cookies I’ve baked this month!

My sister and I have been decorating Christmas cookies for… oh, forever. We started when I was in high school, or maybe even middle school with my mom, and have continued the tradition since moving out. We also started decorating other sugar cookies for other events with specific themes, making a few designs and repeating them to make whole platters of decorated cookies. And yet somehow, it’s taken us this long to realize that our normal scheme of decorating each cookie as its own masterpiece is an insane time-suck.

But no more! This year we had a theme, and a plan. And what says Christmas more than Christmas sweaters? So all of our cookies are decorated Fair-Isle style for some kitschy, festive cuteness.

Nobody’s Perfect {Baby Shower Cookies}

If you know me in real life– or, frankly, if you’ve read a lot of this blog– you probably know that I can be a little tiny bit of a perfectionist sometimes. Or a lot of a perfectionist most of the time.

I realize that last sentence doesn’t really work grammatically.

Anyway. I made these a long time ago, now. Like 2 months ago, almost. It was during a really super crazy week when I had a baby shower and a birthday party and any number of other things happening all at once. I hadn’t even decided for sure that I was going to make sugar cookies for this baby shower (the one for which I made this Elephant Onesie) but then I decided to be my overachieving self and just do it.

Well, it wasn’t really a great choice as these cookies were a huge pain in the neck. Ha ha. I made sure to do a really simple design, and chose to do it all with one consistency of icing so that they’d go really fast. Except it didn’t go like that.
