A New Look

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for stopping by. As you can see, we’ve made some changes around here. I felt like a fresh start was needed, so I’ve been spending the last couple months changing things up!

This blog also has a new domain– byambershands.com— That’s right, we dropped the “.wordpress” so we’re easier to find. If you use the old url, it will redirect here, so no worries!

Additionally, I finally figured out how to put a printable recipe section in my posts (I know, I’m so very far behind the times!) and so I’ve been going back and adding them to my old recipes. I haven’t gotten to all of them yet, so if you see a recipe that you’d like a printable for, send me a line and I’ll move that one to the top of the list! You can send my a message from the About Me page.

I hope you enjoy this fresh new look! Thanks for all the love, friends!

If there’s anything that you want
If there’s anything I can do
Just call on me and I’ll send it along

When I found these adorable tag cookie cutters, I knew right away that they needed to be part of our Christmas cookies this year. And when I thought about what to write on them, this song immediately popped into my head. And then my imagination started flowing, figuring out how to combine Christmas with this love theme. Then my sister suggested using a turquoise and red color scheme, and these cookies were born. Continue reading

Grandma’s Gingersnaps

23429134205_2edfe768e2_nRight around the time that fall hits, it seems our tastes change. We long for those comforting foods– you know, the ones with all the butter and cream? Haha. And also the ones filled with warm spices.

These gingersnaps from my grandma’s recipe box fit the bill perfectly. In my family, these have always been called “gingersnaps,” but the truth is that there isn’t anything “snappy” about these cookies. These are soft and chewy and filled with molasses. They’re just plain delicious. A cookie by any other name, right?

Secret Agent Birthday Party

22943812736_f1f399be14_n Hey friends!

We had an awesome little shindig for Little Man’s 5th birthday (how the heck is he 5 now??) and I’d love to tell you all about it.

This year we had a little more trouble figuring out what kind of theme to go with. So I perused Pinterest (like always) and saw some ideas for spy parties and knew that as soon as I suggested it to Little Man, there would be no changing our minds!

And while there were plenty of ideas for decorations and food and activities on Pinterest, I was feeling like I needed something a little more cohesive. Since Little Man is the oldest of most of his friends, I was concerned about making it accessible and fun for 4-year-olds. Last year we planned fun games for the kids, but they weren’t that interested in them. So this year I knew the party needed a bit more structure to work.

Burlap & Lace 1st Birthday Party

Well, hello friends.

I’ve legit been working on this post for a couple of weeks. It should not be that hard to write a blog post! I thought that after the party, things would slow down, and they just didn’t. So here we are, like several weeks later, and I’m finally getting this darned thing up.

Miss Bean is 1! I can’t even believe it. How does my life go so fast? Ok, before I go off on an existential crisis here, let me tell you about her party.

Since Bean isn’t old enough yet to pick what theme she wants for her party, it was up to me. When I thought about what I wanted, I didn’t know specifics, but I knew for sure I wanted to get good pictures! So I did what anyone would do, and I turned to Pinterest.

Pinterest is pretty much my best friend & worst enemy. It’s so great for inspiration, but it’s way easy to get out of hand. I recently read this article on the struggles of those with my Meyers-Briggs personality type and one of the things it said was “Constantly biting off more than you can chew… and then chewing it out of stubbornness.” So me + Pinterest = setting the bar too high and then killing myself to reach it. Haha. I quickly set on the Burlap & Lace theme, which is girlier than we will likely ever do again, but I knew the pictures would be awesome. Once the theme was set, I let inspiration run away with me. Continue reading
